40 Hours Devotion for Philip Johnson

As many of you know, Philip Gerard Johnson, a seminarian for the Diocese of Raleigh has been battling brain cancer for the last two years since it was discovered. This summer, he is in residence at Sacred Heart Church in Dunn, NC.

Tomorrow, Thursday, June 10, the parish will begin a 40 Hours Devotion beginning with Holy Eucharist at 12:15 PM and ending on Saturday, June 12 at 8 AM. Friday is the Feast of the Sacred Heart, so prayers to the Sacred Heart are the particular focus.

From our diocesan Cure d'Ars Prayer Group, the announcement was made that we need everyone, wherever they are in the world, to please help keep the devotion going especially through the wee hours of the night here Eastern Daylight Savings Time in North America.
"We are a small parish and we need your help. We need people to come and pray for an hour before the Blessed Sacrament for Phillip for the specific intention that he is allowed to live to be a priest.

"If you would like to reserve an hour you can call the church office at 910-891-1972 from 9:30am to 2:30pm or you can email me at

"If you can not come to Dunn and pray we are asking that you go before the Blessed Sacrament anywhere in the world for at least one hour during these designated 40 hours and pray that Jesus, would let him live to be a priest.

"We are asking that during this hour you would say at least one Rosary and the Litany of the Sacred Heart. We are asking that you pray for Phillip through the intercession of Father Thomas Frederick Price, St. Bernadette Soubirous,St. John Vianney, St. Rita and our Blessed Mother."
Please, would you in kindness to a beautiful young man who loves God with all his heart and desires to be a priest, please contact the church and let them know what hour you'd like to pray.

Thank you. God bless you.
