St Chromatius

Today's reading from the Office of Readings is by St. Chromatius. Who was St. Chromatius? Pope Benedict gave a catechesis on St. Chromatius on 5 December, 2007. He was the highly-esteemed bishop of Aquileia having received his episcopal consecration from Ambrose. His see was quite vast including parts of Bavaria, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, and Hungary. In the bitter dispute between Jerome and Rufinus, Chromatius tried to effect a reconciliation. The unjustly-oppressed John Chrysostom, Bishop of Constantinople, appealed to Chromatius for support.
