New Auxiliary Bishop for Rockville Center

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation of Bishop Emil A. Wcela, Auxiliary Bishop of Rockville Center in conformity to canon 411 and 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law.

The Holy Father has nominated as Auxiliary Bishop the Rev. Peter A. Libasci of the Diocese of Rockville Center. He was born in 1951 in Jackson Heights, New York and received his Master of Divinity from the St. Meinrad School of Theology. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1978. He has served in various parishes in the Diocese of Rockville Center and has permission from the Holy See to celebrate Mass in the Latin and Ruthenian rites.
